It started with a simple box.
BoxLuvi began with a simple idea: drop a coin into a box - and the box comes alive.
But if we go all the way back to the beginning - a very, very long time ago (less than a year, actually 🙂) - there was a 3D printer. And with it came spools of filament, a slicer and a mountain of settings...
Then I opened Blender. It looked like the control panel of a spaceship. Ready-made models were no longer enough - I wanted to design my own shapes, buildings and unusual boxes. (My wife especially liked the carved chests that open.)
A soldering iron and a handful of electronic parts came next. Add a little Arduino IDE magic - and the box lights up, speaks and reacts to a coin.
At some point, I thought this might be interesting to other people too. So the project got a name BoxLuvi? along with this website and a few social media accounts.
Later came EasyEDA: a second spaceship from a completely different star system.
I could have kept hiding a spiderweb of wires inside. But I wanted to do it properly — neatly, reliably and with probably too much attention to every detail.
So much for a simple box...
